NEMA Urges State Governments to Embrace Disaster Risk Reduction

The National Emergency Management Agency has urged state governments in the country to support the new drive for disaster risk reduction.

The Director-General of the agency, Mustapha Habib Ahmed made the plea when the Deputy Governor, of Anambra State, Gilbert Ibezim, visited him in Abuja recently.

Mustapha Habib appealed to the deputy governor to convey the message to his boss about improper allocation of plots of land and granting of building permits to individuals and organisations to build on water ways which contributes in no small measure to the flooding being experienced across the country.

The deputy Governor in his remarks commended NEMA for the supported it ahs rendered to the state in managing of growing cases of flood,.

He called for greater collaboration to enhance the capacity of the state to manage disasters especially those that are seasonal in nature.

Mustapha Ahmed assured the deputy governor of the agency’s readiness to tackle challenges of flood in the state and proffer solutions to them.

He added, “Your visit to NEMA is a practical display of efforts towards building a strong collaboration between Anambra State and NEMA on disaster risk management and building of community resilience.”
